Clay Brick

Boral® leads the brick industry in its commitment to sustainable manufacturing as a founding member of the Climate Registry, a sponsor of Earthcraft House, and a USGBC member.
.

boralbricks_003Made from 100% genuine clay and shale, all-natural brick has an exceptionally long life cycle, does not emit ozone-depleting substances. Unlike other building materials, brick creates little waste when it is manufactured. Mining one pound of clay produces nearly one pound of brick with only slight moisture and mineral loss. The raw materials that Boral® uses to produce brick are surface-mined in a way that causes minimal long-term impact to the environment.

Brick veneer construction incorporates a one-inch air space between brick and sheathing, providing drainage and insulating from temperature and sound transfer. Brick also has thermal mass - the brick exterior absorbs heat and cold slowly, which regulates indoor temperatures and creates a more energy-efficient interior environment. As a result, homebuyers will enjoy lower energy bills throughout the year.

With its wide network of 23 plants, Boral can supply most markets with locally manufactured products. Boral also has a three-tier strategy for the use of renewable fuels throughout its plant network, including the use of landfill gas and recycled industrial waste. A very promising avenue for renewable fuel development is through gasification technology, where waste material can be burned in a gasifier that delivers the clean fuel into the kiln.
